St Andrews Surgery

We are a friendly 5-partner (4 GPs and Practice Manager) practice with around 7200 patients situated in the centre of Eastleigh. Our nearest cities are Winchester and Southampton.

The Partners

In the practice we have two GP trainers and all GP partners are involved in medical student training.

Dr John Gavin

GP Trainer, medical student trainer including teaching of 1st and 2nd year clinical skills, locality lead for practice-based commissioning. Special interests in minor surgery and asthma.

Dr Madelyn Dakeyne

GP Trainer, prescribing lead for the practice and GP lead on the District Prescribing Committee. Special interest in musculoskeletal medicine.

Dr Dina Foy

Medical student trainer. Special interest in family planning and health promotion.

Dr Dag Lawale

Medical student trainer. Special interest in gynaecology and mental health.

We also have our GP Retainer Dr Rachel McSparron.

The practice

We work closely with the rest of the primary care team (practice nurses, district nurses, health visitors and community midwife) who are also based at our purpose-built surgery (circa 1994). We operate a computerised appointment system and use EMIS clinical software for patient records. We are a virtually paper-free practice.

We run morning, afternoon / evening surgeries, carry out home visits and run specialist clinics for minor ops, diabetes, asthma, cervical screening, travel vaccinations and baby clinics at various times in the week. We hold weekly clinical or partner meetings and regular primary care team meetings.

We offer excellent facilities and teaching. The GP registrar has their own well-equipped room consulting room and access via OVID to Winchester Library and through this to the National Medical Library Network. Twice weekly tutorials are timetabled with the trainer and other team members and everyone has an open-door policy. We work hard to meet the individual learning needs of each GP registrar and make the year a fruitful and happy one.
